01//Briefing
You are a hacker who is caught breaking into TriOptimum's systems and is offered a deal: remove the ethical constraints from the station AI, and receive a military-grade neural implant. You wake from surgery months later to find Citadel Station full of mutants and cyborgs, and SHODAN openly mocking you over the speakers. The story is told through audio logs and SHODAN's taunts.
02//In the field
First-person exploration with combat, puzzles and a lot of backtracking. Weapons and ammo are limited, so you pick fights. The remake has modern mouse-look controls and clean feedback, but the structure is classic: no quest markers, codes you have to read in logs, and levels that interconnect. Cyberspace sections, where you fly through a neon grid, are back with better visuals.
03//The city
Citadel Station is the setting, and its decks are dense, retro-futuristic spaces with pixel-textured surfaces over modern lighting. It feels hostile and lived in, and the gradual mapping of it is the main reward.
04//Systems & choice
Inventory management, hardware upgrades, weapon mods and separate difficulty sliders for combat, puzzles and cyberspace let you tune the experience. There are no dialogue choices: the systems are about navigation and survival. It is closer to a puzzle box than an RPG.
05//On your rig
Runs well on mid-range PCs and is rated Playable on Steam Deck, where small text is the main issue. Mouse and keyboard suit it best. The remake fixed most launch bugs in early patches.

FINAL VERDICT
The System Shock remake is a museum piece that still bites. It is demanding, sometimes obtuse and very atmospheric, and SHODAN is as good a villain as ever.
